The "Cool S" Air Freshener

On June 7, 1989, the first "Cool S" was spray-painted by Lance "CJ" Wilson back behind the Chico's Liquor on Alameda and Lombard. Before long it was popping up all over the West Coast, from bathroom stalls to algebra homework and everywhere in between. The "Cool S" became a symbol of the streets, a badge of coolness for the youth who were looking to make their mark. It wasn't just a trend; it was a statement, a silent nod to those in the know. As it spread like wildfire, the mystique of the "Cool S" grew. It became an urban legend, the origins of which were as elusive as the night itself.
